When starting a new idea, I go to my sketchbook first. I play with the composition and work out where the highlights and shadows will go. On the canvas I sketch the lines in with a yellow. I enjoy building the layers of colour, starting with the darkest hues and moving to the lightest highlights. I always consider the sun; where is it shining from and how does the light affect my object. At the very end I add in the brightest, whitest strokes of paint to catch the eye and pull the viewer into the painting.
