Windswept Garden

16”x16” Sold

I was captivated by the delicate purple flowers being blown by the wind when I first saw this photograph. When I started the painting, it took a lot of time and creativity with colour to bring the hydrangeas to life. I had to be careful not to use too much white as it can be overpowering. The green of the foliage at first looked dull and flat until I added in multiple layers of light and dark greens to develop depth amongst the leaves and stems. I almost gave up a few times, (I am starting to see that most paintings have this difficult stage) but I made it to the other side.

Thank you to Fernhill Garden in Finland for allowing me to paint a little part of their garden.
